Vanessa Hudgens (born Vanessa Anne Hudgens, on the 14th of December, 1988) is a popular American celebrity singer and actress. She has portrayed several different characters, but is probably most well known for her High School Musical character Gabriella Montez. The role in the teen movie “High School Musical” was a ramp for Hudgens’ career, as starting with that she started getting roles in various movies, series and even started a career in the music industry. A quick roundup of her career as an actress looks like this: after portraying Gabriella Montez in the entire series of High School Musical, she went on to star in television series which include Drake & Josh, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, The Brothers Garcia, Still Standing and Quintuplets. Her career as a mvoie actress kicked off in 2003, when Vanessa starred in Thirteen, a drama where she portrayed Noel. Just one year later, in 2004, she was cast as the lead in the sci-fi Thunderbirds, where she played the role of Tintin. Vanessa Hudgens is also a prolific singer, and after her first role in the  musical that made her famous she went on to record an album. Her first album, entitled “V” came out in 2006 and was very well received, hitting the Bilboard 200 at #24. This was followed by her second album, “Identified”, in 2008. The actress/singer is also well known for exposing herself in controversial nude pictures that have twice circled the internet, tabloids and celebrity shows worldwide.

A few things that aren’t known by the general public are: her family is from all over the world, as she has Chinese, American Indian, Irish, Filipina and Spanish roots – now that’s a veritable cocktail! In her audition for the role that put her on the map (High School Musical), Vanessa Hudgens performed a song by Robbie Williams – “Angels”. Another fun fact: she has been dating her co-star Zac Efron since 2006.

Vanessa Hudgens was born in California, and she and her family moved all over the West Coast. She was the daughter of an office worker and a firefighter, and she is the oldest of two daughters. All four of her grandparents are musicians, and it would seem obvious that she would eventually go down the music road at some point of her life. And that point came quickly, at her age of eight, when she started to perform as a singer in musical theater, as well as appearing in local productions of much more famous acts like The Wizard of Oz, The Music Man, Carousel, The King and I, or Cindirella. Two years later, she started to audition for TV shows and commercials. After she had won a spot in a commercial, she and her family moved to Los Angeles. Hudgens started her acting career at 15, briefly attending an acting school in Orange County.

Vanessa’s acting career started in 2003, when she landed a small role in the critically aclaimed drama “Thirteen”. She takes on the role of Noel, one of the friends of Tracy, the main character. The film was well received by critics and audience alike. After that came her first large role, as Tintin in Thunderbirds. This movie, however, turned out to be a total disaster, as it was very ill received even before the movie hit the theaters – it ended up not even covering the production budget. Late 2005 came with the High School Musical release and her performance in the film was highly acclaimed by critics and fans, and many analysts saw her becoming a huge celebrity name in show business.

What followed after her performance in the Disney hit was a string of movies and singing gigs, that only secured her position as one of the leading young artists in Hollywood. With appearances on shows like Robot Chicken, movies like Beastly, or musicals like Rent, or even with appearances on stage during events such as the 2009 Oscars, Hudgens has secured a place among the top artists in the world, and her positive reviews keep flowing in.

Hudgens’ music career is at an all time high, and it seems it can go nowhere but up from here. Following her debut album, “V”, she has hit the Billboard 200 and climbed all the way up to number 24, getting Gold certified in early 2007. “V” was chosen as the seventh most favorite album of the year, a great accomplishment for a debut album. After touring with the High School Musical crew, she returned to the studio to record her next album, “Identified”, which hit the airwaves in mid 2008, and settled one spot higher than her previous record, on number 23. The album only saw two singles barely making it to the top 100s from all over the world. She has yet to release a third album.

Hudgens’ short career is not without recognition. Over the past years she has managed to get nominated and win several celebrity awards. In 2006, he was nominated for the Imagen Foundation Awards for the Best Television Actress Award, which she did not win. Also in 2007, the Teen Choice Awards nominated her for outstanding TV Chemistry between her and Zac Efron, and she won this award. She also won the same award the following year, for the best breakout artist. The same award went to her yet again in 2008, for the “Choice Hottie”, and one year later she was nominated in the same category, along with two more, but she didn’t manage to turn any of the nominations into wins. She was also nominated for best performance in a TV Movie by the Young Artist Award, and she made the list on MTV’s famous Movie Awards with the “Best Kiss” and female performance awards, which she was only nominated for. In 2009 she was nominated for the Favorite Movie Actress, and she managed to score that award.
