Taylor Swift (born Taylor Alison Swift, on the 13th of December 1989), is a celebrity actress and singer. She broke out into the music industry back in 2006, when her debut single (“Tim McGraw”) was released, along with her debut album (which was named after the singer herself, “Taylor Swift”). The country music album was very well received, as it was since multiplatinum certified by the RIAA. She was then nominated for the “Best New Artist” at the Grammy Awards. In 2008, she released the second album, named “Fearless”, which not only matched her previous performance of getting an Emmy nomination, but it also got her four wins at the 52nd edition of the awards. Over the years Taylor has swept the hearts of fans worldwide, she has earned award after award and she shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Taylor is the oldest of two children. She was born in Pennsylvania to a stockbroker father and a homemaker mother. Her only close relative that was in the music industry was Majorie Finlay, her grandmother from her mother’s side, who was an opera singer. Art was in Taylor’s life very early on. She showed signs of artistic talent ever since she was a fourth grader, when she proceeded to win a poetry contest – and not a small one, a national one! Her three page poem (“Monster in My Closet”) won over the judges. She learned how to play the guitar at the young age of 10, and that sparked her interest for music – it was not long after that that she wrote “Lucky You” – her first song. Taylor then began writing songs on a regular basis, and also didn’t ignore her other work – when she was only 12 years old she wrote a novel spanning 350 pages, that was never published.

Probably the most well known incident involving Taylor happened in 2009, at the MTV VMAs. This was the first time Swift appeared on stage at this event, and it was the first time any country singer was awarded such a prize from MTV. Taylor went up stage to receive the award, began her speech, when she was unexpectedly interrupted by rapper Kanye West, who took the microphone away from her, only to say that despite her winning, Beyonce “had one of the greatest videos of all time”. Shocked, Swift couldn’t finish her speech, and the moment quickly became one of the most famous and awkward moments in recent TV history. Everybody started to criticize West for his behavior, and he subsequently issued several apologies to the young artist. A bit later in the show, when Beyonce won an award herself, she handed the microphone to Taylor, saying she didn’t have the chance to finish her speech. The incident, although embarrassing, made Taylor Swift that much more famous.
