Greg Oden

Greg Oden (born Gregory Wayne Oden, Jr.) is a famous celebrity basketball player. He is one of the best contemporary American basketball players, and he plays as a center. He plays in the National Basketball Association for the Portland Trail Blazers, where he has been playing ever since he was drafted, in 2007.

Greg Oden was born in New York, and when he was nine years old his whole family moved to Indiana. There, in the middle school that he attended, he got the first chance to play organized basketball. Upon arriving in Indianapolis, Indiana, to follow classes at the Lawrence North High School, he was a part of the team that won championships for three years in a row. In 2006, he graduated high school, already being a notable player, and having succeeded in many achievements: he was the 2005 Basketball Player of the Year, in 2005 and 2006 he was the high school player of the year, awards given to him by both PARADE and Gatorade. Also in 2006, he received awards from McDonald’s and Naismith. In 2006 he would have entered straight into the NBA, but it was just a year after the National Basketball Association had imposed an age restriction, making it impossible for him to do so. As such, he attended Ohio State University. Unfortunately, his entire college career was short lived, as Oden spent his whole beginning of the 2006-2007 season on the bench, due to an injury he was recovering from. In December of 2006 he made his debut, and received many praise as such.

In April 2007, Oden made an announcement that he would enter the NBA Draft, thus ending his college and high school career (fun fact: throughout college and high school, he had never lost a home game). He was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the first overall pick, a team with which he is still active. Unfortunately, he did not get the chance to play in his debuting season, as he had suffered an injury on his right knee and he had to undergo surgery.

In a series of unfortunate incidents, Greg Oden hasn’t had the chance to play and prove his abilities with the Trailblazers. His entire NBA career was filled with injuries, and he spent most of the time on the bench recovering from surgery. His left knee is his Achilles’ heel, as he is known to seriously injure it on numerous occasions. The most recent injury occurred in late 2010, one from which he has yet to recover.

On a personal level, Oden maintains a low profile, and he has not been involved in any altercations, celebrity scandals or such.

All in all, Greg Oden is a promising young player, full of potential, and experts even say that he is a player the likes of which you only see in a decade. Once he overcomes his health problems and goes back into the court, we are sure that we’ll see great things from Oden.
