Greg Oden is one of the American basketball players who became top high school players in the country. In the 2006 NBA draft, he was considered to be the number one overall selection. Unfortunately, the league changed its rules and they are not allowing high school players to enter the draft anymore. But it was in 2005 when Oden already committed himself to Ohio State for basketball scholarship.
He was a former Lawrence North High School star who is now on leave for his season ending surgery. He still didn’t know when he can return from his leave and he’s not telling any update on his comeback. But, it has always been his desire to just go back to the court at some point.
He was already off his crutches when he made his very first comment ever since he has had his micro-fracture surgery on his left knee back in November. He was using a cane to help support his walking and his overall fragile frame. He said he’ll be back and do everything he can to control himself as well as what he is doing. He’s going to take rehabilitation and recover so that he can go back playing healthily.
In the 2007 NBA draft, Oden was the number 1 overall pick and he became the center of the Portland Trail Blazers. Since then, he’s been playing great seasons became a great leader and celebrity role model at the age of 23. This young athlete takes everything seriously. But, he watched his team more than playing along with them during his last four seasons – a totally heartbreaking fact given that he was the top pick in the draft.
He experienced three season-ending surgeries ever since he joined the Trail Blazers and has played a total of 82 games, which is just equivalent to one NBA season. Even without doing the math, he’s the “player in absentia.”
Walton, retired player for the Blazers now serving as game analyst for Celtics and Sacramento, even advised young Oden to take it easy and live life without compromising his health. He further stated that it is all about health and family, while everything else is just small stuffs.
Greg Oden has a hard time getting through it though he admits that he has good people around him. He’s looking forward to going back out there and play along with his team once again for all that’s worth.
