The gay liberation movement was growing and Robinson’s passion for gay rights caused him to campaign for it even in his music. Tom formed the Tom Robinson band in 1977. They began “2-4-6-8 Motorway” hit the top 20. The BBC’s band on their lead track “Glad to be Gay” probably only help to catapult their tracks to the top of the charts. Media fanatics sent their debut album, “Power in the Darkness”, to gold. Tragically, just three short years later, the band disassembled on bitter terms.

Tom; however, didn’t give up attempting to spread his political agenda through music and started a new band entitled Sector 27. Now in the era of the 1980’s, he recorded a new album which received a warm reception from the critics. The band traveled overseas to American soil and wowed the masses of New York with their tracks. In 1979, Robinson co-wrote songs with Elton John that peaked at #37 on the Billboard charts. However, this band too would disassemble. This time they left Tom virtually bankrupt. In his attempt to escape tax services Tom fled in his plane to Hamburg. While hunched in his friend’s spare room, he began writing again. While living in Hamburg he became fluent in German and worked with a band in East Berlin. When he returned home he hit the studio with a single that sent him raging back to the top of the charts. “War Baby” sent him into the top 10. Exile had given Tom new inspiration to write and new crowds to perform to. He traded in rock-n-roll venues for cabarets. He rode the wave of revival into the 90’s with three new albums.

The most interesting aspects of Tom’s life is not just his musical resurrections but his paradoxical lifestyle. Tom Robinson married a woman and had children. The tabloids ran headlines that read “Britain’s Number 1 Gay In Love with Girl Biker”. He told the Guardian, “I have more sympathy for bi-sexual now, but I am absolutely not one.” “Our enemies do not make a distinction between gay and bi-sexual,” he continued. His campaign changed from the tunneled vision of homosexuality only to a bi-sexual approach. His album “Having it Both Ways” depicts his personal growth. In 1994, he added lyrics to the song that made him famous “Glad to be Gay”. The lyrics summed up his transformation, “a label is no liberation at all. I’m here. I’m queer and I do what I do. I’m not gonna wear a straitjacket for you.” He called himself a “gay man who happens to be in love with a woman”. The dichotomy was mind shattering to some. Critics claimed his “gay-ness” was a marketing tactic while his personal life professed otherwise.

In recent history, Tom has become better known for his broadcasting than his musical career. Interestingly, the company that once banned his singles came knocking at his door. BBC has allowed Tom to broadcast on all of their national stations. He was also the host of the “The Locker room” a segment for men. Robinson won the Sony Radio Award in 1997 with his gay music documentary, “You Have Got to Hide Your Love Away”. Phil Ivey Returns to the World of Poker

In the past six months, Phil Ivey’s name has been spoken several times not because he has participated in poker tournaments. The only time we encounter his name is when we ask ourselves – Will Phil Ivey show up this time around? Ever since he decided to bow out on the 2011 Poker World Series, he only made a few of those poker-related appearances and general ones at that – not really the big games.

Observationally speaking, Phil Ivey has not participated in any major poker events since Black Friday and even when he played at the Macau cash games and APPT Macau main event this has not really made big news in the poker world.

At the start of the year 2012, PCA and the Aussie Millions – along with other few major events – that if without the 2011 Black Friday, Phil Ivey would be one of the very first persons to register and participate. Most, if not always, big buy-in events would draw out Ivey from wherever he hangs out. This gives us an idea that he only participates in games with the highest stakes at play – nothing less. PCA has the $100,000 Super High Roller and yet Phil Ivey has not made any single move to participate at all.

However, there came the $100,000 Aussie Millions Challenge, which tempted the “many consider best” poker player in the world to play. Phil Ivey is part of the 22-player field however he bubbled on the final table and watched 1.1 million AU$ go to the hands of Dan Smith.  Nonetheless, his appearance on this poker tournament alone has resulted to unspoken volumes that many would dare ask – Is he back for good?

There are three starting days on the 10,000 AU$ main event. On the third day, Ivey was tailing the 1.6 million AU$ highest prize. Robert Lam grabbed the Day 1C with his chip lead but the real buzz isn’t about who won – it was about the third placer Phil Ivey. This is to say that Ivey remained under the limelight for a few days. He was looking for his first catch in the year 2012 since December 2010. He earned his eighth WSOP bracelet in June 2010, which was his last win.

On day 2, Ivey finished this up in second and on Day 3 the field of 75 has reduced to 26 after three levels. In the sixth level, Ivey was one of the seven remaining players to grab one million chips at the end of the level. Ivey – winning this event – would grab his largest single tournament cash in his career as a poker player.

Ivey still has a run on the headlines and other established poker professionals are still in line including – Lee Nelson (2006 Champion of this event – who began the day on 10th), Dan Idema (WSOP bracelet winner – on 7th) and Grant Levy and David Steicke (working from short stacks to continue their game for Aussie Millions.

Whether or not Phil Ivey wins the tournament, it is still unclear if he is back in the poker action. A lot of people involved in the poker world wouldn’t expect him to be back in action full time until decisive actions on the poker scandal has been made.

The raven-haired Hollywood beauty has been revealed suffering from stress and exhaustion and is now seeking help to recover from it. She has been reported to have abused nitrous oxide. Many people close to Demi Moore have watched her spiraling downward to worst. With increasing worry, they watched her lose more weight making her look frail and skinny.

This is the second “known” time that Moore had a stint in rehab. The first time was when she sought medical help during her Brat Pack prime after director Joel Schumacher threatened to cut her from the influential coming of age flick “St. Elmo’s Fire.” Michael Levine, Moore’s publicist, said that he remembered Moore to have a problem on substance abuse in the ‘80s but she was still beautiful, charming and intensely ambitious. He added that addiction problems are complicated matters in which no one can really fully recover from. It will always be a process of recovering and stress exacerbates the issues.

Apparently when the old demons began resurfacing, Moore dropped out from the recent project “Lovelace” where she was supposed to play as the feminist icon Gloria Steinem.
