Angelina Jolie Voight, that’s the real name of the world renowned Oscar-winning actress and humanitarian – Angelina Jolie. She was born on June, 4 1975 at Los Angeles, California, USA where she grew up with her Academy Award-winning actor father, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, who studied in Lee Strasberg so she was not completely unfamiliar with the film industry. She has a mixed ancestry including English, Czech, French-Canadian and Iroquois, which have overall attributed to her exotic looks.

She was trained in Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute where she was seen performing quite a number of stage productions at age 11. She took film studies in New York University. Later, she joined the Met Theatre Group that was popular in Los Angeles.

Growing up, she worked as a professional model in Los Angeles, New York and London and has also made appearances on music videos for renowned music articles such as Lenny Kravitz and Meat Loaf, among many others when she was 16 years old.

Her brother James Haven is a director in the USC School of Cinema where she acted in five student films that her brother directed himself.

Her career in the film industry did not stop there. She became even more popular when she took the movie role “Lara Croft” in 2001, which is a series of blockbuster movies that hit the theatre worldwide.

But before this big hit, she was actively involved in various small films in the mid-1990s including Hackers and Foxfire. She later played stronger roles in True Women and George Wallace, which are all made-for-TV movies that won her Golden Globe award and a nomination at Emmy Awards.

She also played the role Gia, which is a true to life story of supermodel Gia Carangi that earned her yet another Golden Globe award, nomination at Emmy Awards and an additional SAG award.

The Bone Collector was her first big break in 1999 with co-star Denzel Washington. She took the leading role in this movie, which opened a collection of movies later on starting with the Girl, Interrupted in the same year as The Bone Collector working alongside Winona Ryder. This movie however barely made money in the box office but it was the movie that let her earn yet another Golden Globe and SAG with the addition of the best supporting actress in the Academy Awards.

As she began rising as a star, she caught the in-depth attention of the press, which later made her personal life public and seemingly an open book especially her love life.

Her first marriage was to Jonny Lee Miller, who was her co-star in Hackers. It became big news in the celebrity news when she wrote the name of her husband on her shirt using her own blood.

After her divorce, she then married Billy Bob Thornton in 2000, who was also her co-star in the Pushing Tin movie. She was the 5th wife of a man 20 years her senior. They later on divorced in the year 2002. She was believed estranged to her famous father during these times.

The Lara Croft: Tomb Raider that was released in 2001 has made her sensational despite the many rumors and gossips about her love life going around. She wasn’t interested at the movie at first but the athletic role which required training made her intrigued about the movie. She played the role that was the female opposite of Indiana Jones and James Bond. It hit the big theatres and became one of her blockbuster movies. Her estranged father appeared in “Croft” which opened a brief rapport between their father-daughter relationships.

It was the “Lara Croft” movie that made her realize the natural beauty and culture as well as the reality of misfortune and poverty in the country of Cambodia. This was what prompted her to be involved in various international charity projects especially those that involved refugees and become a humanitarian. She traveled refugee camps all over the world and later she becomes the official Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

She wrote and published a book about some of her experiences during her travel. Profits of the book will go to the UNHCR.

Most of her time off-screen is spent increasing her humanitarian efforts, which is financed by her actress salary. “Save one-third, live on one-third and give away one-third” is one of her famous quotes that reflect the kind of person that she is after her eye-opening experience in Cambodia.

She adopted Maddox in 2002, who is a Cambodian refugee boy, which was followed by her adoption of Zahara, an Ethiopian refugee girl.

She began filming the Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004, which fueled the rumors of her affair with Brad Pitt. Despite this, she insisted that she didn’t have any affair of a married man because of what happened with her mother. It didn’t come as a surprise that Pitt separated from his wife Jennifer Aniston which ended in a divorce late in 2005.

In May 2006, she gave birth to a child whose father is Brad Pitt. They then adopted the 3-year old Pax, who is a Vietnamese Boy. The couple then continued their careers and humanitarian projects together.
