Andrea Petkovic, a 23 year old celebrity tennis player self-titled “Petkorazzi” who defeated the likes of Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova, is by no means an average tennis player. She is Germany’s No 1 professional tennis player. However, it’s not her tennis playing skills that has propelled her to fame. Instead, it is a joyous jig – which she calls the “Petko Dance”. Andrea Petkovic performs the cute little Petko dance every time she wins a match. The ultra short duration and delicate moves of the Petko dance have made her world famous and a darling of all sports lovers in general and tennis lovers in particular.

Andrea Petkovic is a Serbian born German up-and-comer on the international tennis arena. Apart from being a tennis star which is her passion, she also loves music. Although settled in Germany, Andrea Petkovic keenly follows the current conflict within Serbia and yarns to be able to do something about it. In fact, she has indicated that when she eventually leaves the tennis tour she would love to start a political career in Serbia.

Labeled “beautiful, smart, bubbly and sensitive”, Andrea Petkovic’s claims the Petko dance started off as a tennis bet with her coach Petar Popović. Petar Popović wanted her to do something special if she won against Nadia Petrova and so was born the Petko dance. Deeply superstitious, Andrea Petkovic says her game has got better and better ever since she has been doing the Petko dance. Phil Fill, a musician friend of Andrea Petkovic composed an electro-pop ditty that goes very well with the Petko Dance.

It’s not superstition say psychologists. Her charming little number creates immense love and approval within the audience and they clap loudly. This in turn translates into a “feel good” situation for Andrea Petkovic. The positive atmosphere created by her dance directly translates into positive energy for Andrea Petkovic who in turn, performs even better.

Her intelligence is apparent during post match interviews. She is clear, sensitive and very thoughtful in her responses. As for her tennis ability, Andrea Petkovic has made it to the final of the Brisbane International and she has already claimed the scalps of two former world No.1’s. Experts agree she has a lot of talent and “she will definitely be going places”.

Andrea Petković was introduced to tennis by her father Zoran Petković at the age of six. Zoran Petković, a talented tennis player himself was also a coach at a club in Darmstadt. When Andrea Petković began playing tennis, her father became her coach. Andrea Petković speaks several languages including English, German, Bosnian, French and Serbian. She also writes a diary in the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and as expected, has a huge fan following in Germany.
